Before your appointment
After your appointment
Stop any plucking, threading, sugaring, or waxing on any areas you are seeking to treat. Repeated use of temporary hair removal methods can often result in coarser regrowth of hair & follicle distortion.
Hair must be long enough to be treated at your appointment. If you shave, please allow at least 1/8 inch of regrowth, roughly the size of a grain of rice. Pause shaving/trimming 3 days before your first consultation or appointment to let your hair grow out.
If using retinoids, stop applying skincare with those ingredients at least 1 week before treatment. If on Accutane, it must be discontinued for a minimum of 6 months before undergoing electrolysis treatment.
Try to avoid or limit caffeine the morning of your appointment, as it can increase sensitivity.
Keep hydrated! Consistently staying hydrated helps you feel better. Non-dehydrated skin is easier to treat, and hydration helps your skin to recover as quickly & efficiently as possible.
Within the next 48 hours:
In the treated area, avoid:
touching or rubbing the skin
exfoliating
tweezing, shaving, waxing, or threading
applying fragranced lotion, self-tanner, or perfume
applying products with active ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs, retinoids, or Vitamin C
If you had treatment on the face, it's recommended to use a freshly laundered pillowcase after your appointment.
Makeup application is not advised, as it can introduce bacteria. In exceptional circumstances where that cannot be avoided, be sure to use washed hands and freshly cleaned brushes & sponges to keep the area as clean as possible.
Do not use saunas or swim in oceans, pools, or hot tubs.
Limit extended sun exposure. When the skin is exposed to UV rays, it protects itself by generating pigment. However, when the skin is irritated it may respond by producing excess pigment in the healing process, which can result in hyperpigmentation.
Continue to stay hydrated to help support your skin's healing process.
Aftercare
Use clean hands or new cotton pads/balls to gently pat the treated area with alcohol-free witch hazel or hypochlorous acid. Fragrance-free aloe vera gel can then be applied if the skin is irritated.
